Search Tips

Keyword Searches

Developing a search criteria is easy. And with tips on this page, you can get more complete results.

• You may search a word or phrase.
  

• Searches are NOT case sensitive, so you can type in uppercase or lowercase. (i.e., searching on Computer, COMPUTER, or computer delivers the same results)
  

• Multiple consecutive words in quotes are treated as a phrase; they must appear in the same order within a matching document. For instance, if you type:
  
  "artificial intelligence"
  
  The Search Engine will literally look for the complete phrase artificial intelligence. But if you use Boolean operators on the same query:
  
  artificial ^AND intelligence
  
  It searches all documents for the words artificial and intelligence in the same record, regardless of order.

• Look for words with the same prefix. For example, type key to find key, keys, keying, keyhole, keyboard, and so on.

• Do not put quotation marks around phases because a match will only be found if that phrase is enclosed with quotes in a document.
  

• You can use Boolean operators (^AND, ^OR, and ^AND NOT) to specify a more precise search.

To Search For	Example
Both terms in the same record	laser ^AND radar
Either term in a record	laser ^OR radar
The first term without the second term	image ^NOT processing

Category/Biometric Types Search

To select multiple categories and/or Biometric Types:

1. Click the inital selection (it will become highlighted)
2. Press and hold the Shift Key; click the last selection on which to search (this will highlight all items between the two clicked selections)
3. To select items not in sequential order, press and hold the Control Key while clicking individual choices

To de-select items, press and hold the Control Key. Click the item(s) to be removed from the search criteria.

To search for all postings in a particular category (to include all biometric types), select the category - multiple categories may be chosen - and make no selection in the biometric types listbox.

To search for postings by biometric type (to include all categories), select the biometric type - multiple biometric types may be chosen - and make no selection in the category listbox.
