Techonology Roadmap In addition to networking with peers, a prime benefit of attending this workshop is the creation of a technology roadmap that will be made available to the public. Biometric technology has progressed rapidly in the last five years, and is already a viable technology for some applications. Other applications, however, require interoperability development and niche market expansion to become viable. Others still require a great deal of research to advance the capabilities of the core technology. The technology roadmap developed during this workshop will provide desperately needed direction to vendor and system integrators as they plan their future products. This will provide specific technology solutions for U.S. Government applications, rather than generic solutions for all applications that is being marketed today. The
first breakout session focuses on application issues. An overview of the
data that will be collected is provided in the table below.
Workshop participants are encouraged to talk with their associates prior to attending the workshop to begin developing their agency’s list of biometric requirements. Submitting a “requirement” during this workshop does not bind any agency(s) to purchase systems should they be developed, but merely states that the agency is or will be studying this area for potential usage. This point will be predominantly mentioned in the workshop proceedings. The biometrics community has been asked to submit ideas for review. These ideas will be added to the Biometrics Application page twice weekly and provided to participants at the workshop.
